Initiatives Focus on Bolstering Local Firms' Access to Projects and Fostering Sustainable Growth

In a proactive move to invigorate its local construction industry amidst prevailing economic headwinds, Cheonan City convened the 'First Half of 2025 Regional Construction Industry Revitalization Council Meeting' on April 9th. The gathering, held within the confines of the city hall's central conference room, served as a pivotal platform for stakeholders to collaboratively chart a course towards the sustainable development of the region's construction sector.

Presiding over the session was Deputy Mayor Kim Seok-pil, in his capacity as the esteemed chairman of the council. The meeting witnessed the robust participation of approximately 30 key figures, comprising prominent representatives from local construction enterprises. A significant highlight of the proceedings was the formal recognition of exemplary construction firms through the presentation of the 'Excellent Constructor Award' plaques, a testament to their outstanding contributions in the preceding year. The forum also facilitated a dynamic exchange of insightful perspectives and innovative strategies aimed at fostering a resurgence within the regional construction landscape.

Since its inception in 2022, Cheonan City's 'Excellent Constructor Award' has stood as a distinguished accolade, annually bestowed upon entities that have demonstrably propelled the advancement of the local construction industry. The criteria for this prestigious recognition encompass a spectrum of impactful contributions, including exemplary performance in subcontract execution, the proactive submission of constructive proposals for system enhancements, and tangible contributions to job creation within the region.

The distinguished cohort of 14 companies honored with commemorative plaques at this year's council meeting comprised a diverse array of local construction powerhouses: ㈜Youngsung Engineering, recognized for its prowess in specialized engineering; (Hap)Baekjin Construction Industry, a stalwart in general construction; (Ju)Arirang & (Arirang Co., Ltd.), celebrated for its architectural excellence; (Ju)Jeongan Construction (Jeongan Construction Co., Ltd.), a key player in residential and commercial building; (Ju)Mihak (Mihak Co., Ltd.), renowned for its aesthetic and functional designs; Jeil EMC Co., Ltd., a leader in electrical and mechanical contracting; EODesign Architecture Co., Ltd., lauded for its innovative architectural solutions; (Ju)Hanwool E&C (Hanwool E&C Co., Ltd.), a significant contributor to environmental and civil engineering projects; (Ju)Duson E&G (Duson E&G Co., Ltd.), specializing in comprehensive engineering and construction services; (Ju)Shamaim General Construction (Shamaim General Construction Co., Ltd.), a versatile general contractor; (Ju)Hyemin General Construction (Hyemin General Construction Co., Ltd.), known for its quality residential and commercial developments; ㈜Gangcheon Construction, a robust player in civil engineering and infrastructure; Seongjin Development Co., Ltd., a dynamic force in land development and construction; and Sinhwa Construction Co., Ltd., a respected name in general construction.

The deliberations of the council extended beyond mere recognition, delving into substantive discussions concerning a suite of strategic support measures. These initiatives are meticulously crafted to amplify order procurement opportunities for local enterprises, foster more robust participation in subcontracting arrangements, maximize the utilization of locally sourced labor, construction materials, and equipment, and elevate the overall profile and promotional efforts of indigenous construction firms.

In its unwavering commitment to the revitalization of the regional construction industry, Cheonan City is poised to implement proactive measures aimed at streamlining administrative procedures for both public sector-led construction endeavors and private sector development projects. This strategic facilitation is intended to create a more conducive environment for the active involvement of local construction companies. Furthermore, for significant construction undertakings valued at 10 billion KRW or more, the city will implement a strong recommendation framework advocating for the preferential engagement of local labor, the procurement of regional materials, and the deployment of locally available equipment.

Complementing these efforts, Cheonan City will actively cultivate collaborative partnerships with prominent large-scale construction firms and relevant industry associations. These synergistic alliances will serve as a platform for the sustained promotion of local resource utilization. Concurrently, the city is committed to fostering a culture of equitable subcontracting transactions and safeguarding the interests of small and medium-sized construction enterprises through rigorous oversight of unfair practices and meticulous inspection of contract execution processes.

In his concluding remarks, Deputy Mayor Kim Seok-pil articulated the city's steadfast resolve, stating, "We are acutely aware of the challenges confronting our regional construction industry due to the prevailing market downturn. To facilitate a robust recovery, we are dedicated to expanding opportunities for local businesses to actively participate in construction projects and to diligently formulate and implement practical support measures that will yield tangible benefits."

This concerted effort by Cheonan City underscores a proactive and strategic approach to bolstering its local construction industry, recognizing its vital role in the region's overall economic health and prosperity. By fostering collaboration, streamlining processes, and actively promoting the utilization of local resources, Cheonan City is laying a solid foundation for the sustainable growth and resilience of its construction sector.
