Elon Musk to Unveil xAI's Latest Model, Grok-3, Promising "Smartest AI on Earth"

San Francisco, CA - Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and head of xAI, has announced that his artificial intelligence company will be unveiling its latest model, Grok-3, on February 17th at 8 PM PST. This translates to 1 PM KST on February 18th.

Musk made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on February 15th, approximately 49 hours before the scheduled launch. He stated that the Grok-3 release would be accompanied by a live demonstration.

"Grok-3 release will be with live demo," Musk wrote on X. "Will be the smartest AI on Earth." He added that he and his team would be "refining the product all weekend" and would be "offline until then," suggesting he would be taking a break from posting on X to focus on the launch.

Musk has previously stated his ambition to create an AI model that surpasses OpenAI's ChatGPT. He was an early investor in OpenAI but left the company's board in 2018 due to potential conflicts of interest with Tesla's AI research. He later divested his shares.

After OpenAI gained significant traction with ChatGPT, Musk criticized the company for deviating from its non-profit roots and pursuing profit. In July 2023, he founded xAI and quickly entered the AI race, unveiling the Grok-1 chatbot in November, powered by the large language model (LLM) Grok-1.

The upcoming release of Grok-3 is highly anticipated in the AI community, with many eager to see how it compares to other leading models and whether it lives up to Musk's bold claim of being the "smartest AI on Earth."
