Seoul, South Korea – The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the northern section of the GTX-A express train line, connecting Unjeong Central Station and Seoul Station, will begin operation on December 28th.
With the opening of this new section, the GTX-A line will be nearly complete, with only the central section between Seoul Station, Samsung Station, and Suseo Station remaining under construction.
Commuters will be able to travel between Unjeong Central and Seoul Station in just 22 minutes, a significant reduction from the previous 90-minute journey that involved multiple bus and subway transfers. To accommodate the increased ridership, the operator, SG Rail, will deploy more trains during peak hours, with a reduced headway of 6 minutes and 15 seconds. Additionally, the number of trains operating on the Suseo-Dongtan section, which began service in March, will increase from 52 to 60 daily.
To celebrate the opening of the new section, the Ministry will host a series of events, including an opening ceremony at Unjeong Central Station on December 27th, followed by a test ride from Unjeong Central Station to Seoul Station. Members of the public are invited to participate in the ceremony and test ride by applying through the GTX-A website from [Date] to [Date]. A total of 150 participants will be selected through a random draw and notified individually on December 23rd.
"We have seen a steady increase in ridership on the Suseo-Dongtan section since its opening," said Baek Won-kuk, Second Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. "With the opening of the northern section, we expect a significant improvement in transportation convenience for residents in the northwestern part of the metropolitan area."
