The Chungbuk Cultural Foundation and the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre Company are presenting "Les Misérables" as their regular performance for the latter half of 2026. Tickets opened starting at 10:00 a.m. on September 21 through major ticketing platforms including Naver, Interpark, and Gongyeon Sesang, officially welcoming audiences.

Running for a total of two performances over two days from October 28 to 29 at the Cheongju Arts Center Grand Hall, "Les Misérables" is a theatrical adaptation of the original work by French literary master Victor Hugo, commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France. Set against the backdrop of turbulent French society, the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre Company plans to capture the enduring meaning of human life on stage through "Les Misérables," which embodies the values of human dignity, love, forgiveness, and solidarity that remain relevant today across generations.

The Chungbuk Provincial Theatre Company's production of "Les Misérables" is a large-scale play that vividly depicts the turbulence of the French revolutionary era and the lives of people living within it through dynamic acting, singing, and choreography by the cast. Centered around the dramatic lives and choices of characters including Jean Valjean, the production brings grand epic narratives and intense energy to the grand theater stage. The harmony of songs, choreography, and the actors' ensemble will deliver an overwhelming performance reminiscent of a grand musical.

Notably, this regular performance promotes coexistence with the local cultural and arts community by casting theater-major university students from the Cheongju region as guest actors alongside the members of the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre Company. This adds significant meaning by enabling young regional theater artists to share the grand theater stage with the provincial troupe, gaining practical performance experience while discovering exceptional local talent and providing opportunities for growth.

Kim Nak-hyung, Artistic Director of the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre Company, stated, "This performance goes beyond simply showing Jean Valjean's eventful life; it is a work that demonstrates how a person can change and choose a new life through another's love and forgiveness." He added, "I hope this meaningful year of the 140th anniversary of Korea-France diplomatic relations becomes a time for Chungbuk residents to reflect upon the significance of human dignity, love, forgiveness, and solidarity."

He further noted, "This performance holds special meaning in that the actors of the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre Company and theater-major university students from Cheongju are creating the stage together." He added, "We ask for your great interest and anticipation for the epic drama 'Les Misérables,' built together with local young artists."

Ticket prices are 40,000 KRW for VIP seats and 30,000 KRW for R seats, with a 50% discount benefit provided to Chungbuk residents. The viewing age is 11 and older, and further details can be found through the official website of the Chungbuk Provincial Theatre Company.
