The LG Twins have announced the signing of Venezuelan right-handed pitcher Yonny Chirinos on a one-year deal worth $1 million.
Chirinos, 31, was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013 and has also pitched for the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins. In his Major League Baseball (MLB) career, he has a record of 20-17 with a 4.22 ERA in 75 games. In 2024, he made six starts for the Marlins, going 0-2 with a 6.30 ERA in 30 innings pitched. In the minor leagues, Chirinos has a career record of 22-14 with a 3.43 ERA in 62 games, including 10 wins and 6 losses with a 3.66 ERA in 21 starts in 2024.
"I'm excited to be joining such a popular team in the KBO League," said Chirinos. "I'll be working hard this offseason to get ready. I know about the passionate LG Twins fans and I'm already looking forward to joining the team in 2025. I'll do my best to deliver the results the fans are expecting."
The LG Twins are optimistic about Chirinos' ability to contribute to their pitching staff. "Chirinos is a ground ball pitcher with excellent command of his pitches, especially his sinker and splitter," said a team official. "We expect him to be efficient with his pitches and eat up innings for us."
