October 21, 2026 — The Seoul Green Trust announced that it will host the 6th "Urban Revolution through Forests Forum" on November 18 under the theme "Green for All, Inclusive Cities." The forum aims to examine parks and gardens not merely as green spaces, but through the lens of "spatial welfare"—supporting citizens' health, care, and social connection—while exploring practical solutions to alleviate urban green inequality.
This forum focuses on how to build cities where everyone can equitably access green spaces and enjoy their benefits. It will examine the green space accessibility gaps faced by various citizens, including low-income groups, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, and discuss the potential for inclusive parks and green space services by connecting field practices with policy alternatives.
The program consists of two sessions. In the first session, "Green Welfare for Care and Recovery," presentations will include "Art Healing in Urban Forests Connecting Hearts" by Choi Bum-gyu, Team Leader at the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service; "Garden Healing for Dementia Care Families, Loose Gardening" by Lim Hye-ran, Coordinator at the Seoul Green Trust; and "Opening Green Jobs for Care-Leaving Youth through Social Gardening" by Kim Ha-na, CEO of Brother's Keeper.
In the second session, "Policy and Cooperative Governance for Green Inclusion," presentations will feature "Park Access Strategies to Alleviate Green Inequality" by Kim Yong-guk, Research Fellow at the Architecture & Urban Research Institute; "Barrier-Free Parks, Institutional Improvement Solutions for Persons with Disabilities" by Kim Hye-jin, Senior Team Leader at the Korea Differently Abled Federation; and "National Sejong Arboretum's Farm-to-Market and Regional Coexistence Model" by Kim Young-ryul, Assistant Manager at the National Sejong Arboretum under the Korea Arboretum and Garden Institute. Following the presentations, a Q&A and panel discussion will explore the implications and practical tasks of each case study.
The Seoul Green Trust has expanded green spaces close to citizens' daily lives through activities creating and nurturing urban forests, parks, and gardens. Based on diverse on-site experiences, this forum will examine tasks to broaden accessibility and utilization opportunities for green spaces, and discuss directions for cooperation among public institutions, corporations, experts, and civil society.
Cho Jung-jin, Chairperson of the Seoul Green Trust, stated, "Park and green spaces do not automatically become equitable resources simply by being created. Through this forum, we hope to share diverse on-site experiences and policy alternatives, and find cooperative ways for more citizens to enjoy the benefits of parks and gardens."
The forum will take place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 18, at the B1 level of Heyground Bricks Seongsu Starting Point. Registration is available from 10:00 AM on Monday, October 19, to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 10. Further details and registration can be found on the Seoul Green Trust website (greentrust.or.kr).
