Thanks to my youngest aunt, who has lived in Haeundae for over 50 years, I got to know the sea for the first time in my childhood, and I've always fallen in love with the charm of Busan. Busan is a world-class luxury city, and during the Korean War, it served as the provisional capital. Thanks to its port, it has also played a vital role in feeding and sustaining the Republic of Korea. These days, it is immensely popular for tourism.
In Busan, there is the United Nations Memorial Cemetery. Young people from all over the world sacrificed their lives fighting a war in an unfamiliar Korean Peninsula. How many heartbreaking stories each of these individuals must have! Thinking of their bereaved families makes my heart heavy. I have heard many stories from foreign friends about how their grandfathers' brothers were killed or went missing. Every single story I heard was filled with tears.
For the guests from participant nations who visit the UN Memorial Cemetery in Busan, I definitely want to cook them at least one warm meal. Furthermore, whenever veterans—whether Korean or foreign—visit Busan, I want to ensure they don't have to worry about accommodation. I have already rented two officetels for this purpose. Guests from two countries have already stayed here, and guests from another country are scheduled to visit soon.
Haeundae Crystal Beach is very popular because it is less than a 5-minute walk from the sea. During peak seasons, Busan lacks enough hotels and motels, so travelers even have to go all the way to Gijang to sleep. Moreover, people with light wallets cannot easily afford hotels or motels, often ending up spending the night on Haeundae Beach. In summer, they get bitten by mosquitoes, and in winter, they suffer from the cold. I have encountered countless such unfortunate stories.
Even if it's not a luxury facility, I want to provide them with a comfortable place to sleep in an officetels. Acquaintances who understand my vision have even invested from Singapore. I respect anyone who has worked for the Republic of Korea. When they come to Busan, I want to express my feelings in this way. I also want to let global neighbors know that "Koreans are people who do not forget gratitude and repay kindness."
