Nonsan, South Korea – In a move aimed at preventing real estate speculation and ensuring the smooth development of a cutting-edge defense research facility, the city of Nonsan has designated a 111,869 square-meter plot of land in Yeonmu-eup, Dongsan-ri as a restricted zone for real estate transactions and development.   

The decision, which came after approval from the Chungcheongnam-do Urban Planning Committee on [Date] for the land transaction restrictions and the Nonsan City Urban Planning Committee on [Date] for the development restrictions, will remain in effect until December 2027.   

The restricted area will house the future Defense Future Technology Research Center, a state-of-the-art facility focused on advanced defense technologies such as ground robotics, unmanned systems, and next-generation energy. The center, under the auspices of the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), is expected to create 1,600 jobs and attract over 60 defense companies to the region.   

Within the restricted zone, any land transaction exceeding certain thresholds will require approval from the mayor of Nonsan. Furthermore, various development activities, including construction, land grading, and the removal of natural materials, are prohibited. These measures are intended to prevent rapid development and protect the environment.

"By preventing speculative transactions and ensuring systematic land management, we expect the construction of the Defense Future Technology Research Center to proceed smoothly," said a city official. "We are committed to making this project a success and positioning Nonsan as a leading center for advanced defense technology."

Construction on the center is expected to begin in earnest next year, following the completion of the design phase. The initial phase will focus on ground robot autonomous driving, while subsequent phases will involve research in unmanned systems, chemical and biological agents, military batteries, and next-generation energy.

Upon completion, the research center is poised to become a driving force for regional development and a hub for cutting-edge defense research in South Korea.
