Dangjin City is making a bold transition from a brief-visit destination to a vibrant, stay-over tourism hub. On September 12, the city hosted the grand "Dangjin Tourism Great Transformation Vision Declaration Ceremony" at the Sapgyocheo Sea Park Outdoor Performance Stage, marking a pivotal turning point for the region’s tourism industry.
The event was attended by major dignitaries, including Chungnam Province Administrative Vice-Governor Hong Jong-wan, Dangjin Mayor, local lawmakers, city council members, and an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 5,000 citizens and tourists. Jointly organized by Dangjin City and sponsored by the Korea Tourism Organization, the ceremony was designed to overhaul the city's tourism framework and directly tie visitor growth to tangible local economic revitalization.
During the ceremony, the 9th popular-elected administration of Dangjin officially proclaimed its new tourism vision centered around the core philosophy of "Staying Longer, Experiencing Deeper, and Consuming More." Rather than relying on transient, one-off visitors who briefly stop by, the city aims to curate immersive, multi-day experiences that encourage travelers to sleep, dine, and spend locally.
Chungnam Administrative Vice-Governor Hong Jong-wan delivered an encouraging congratulatory speech, emphasizing the strategic shift required for modern regional development. "The core of contemporary tourism policy must move away from fleeting, short-term visits toward a structural enhancement that encourages tourists to linger, enjoy diverse programs, and breathe vitality into the local economy," Vice Governor Hong stated. He further assured that the provincial government will maintain active administrative and financial support to ensure Dangjin establishes itself as a premier stay-over tourism destination representing Chungnam Province.
The declaration ceremony was complemented by spectacular cultural and technological spectacles that drew massive applause from the 5,000 attendees. The night sky above Sapgyocheo lit up with a breathtaking 2,000-drone light show, followed by vibrant cultural arts performances and a grand fireworks display, signaling a brilliant new departure for Dangjin's tourism landscape.
To complement these local efforts, Chungnam Province is proactively implementing diverse stay-over promotion programs, such as the "Chungnam One-Month Stay" initiative, regional accommodation discount festas, and the "Workation Chungnam" project. By aligning these province-wide programs with Dangjin’s unique coastal resources, marine parks, and cultural assets, the local government plans to build robust infrastructure that naturally extends tourist retention and maximizes local consumer spending.
