Kim Tae-heum, Governor of Chungcheongnam-do Province and Asia-Pacific Chair of the Under2 Coalition, will embark on a four-day trip to Singapore from the 7th to the 10th to attend the Asia Climate Action Summit, where he will deliver a speech and hold meetings with representatives from various countries.
Chungcheongnam-do Province, leading global carbon neutrality as Korea's Carbon Neutrality Economy Special Zone, aims to share its achievements in responding to the climate crisis with the world and explore ways to expand cooperation.
Governor Kim, in his capacity as the Asia-Pacific Chair of the Under2 Coalition, is traveling to Singapore for the Asia Climate Action Summit and other engagements from May 7th to May 10th.
The Asia Climate Action Summit is an international conference organized by the Under2 Coalition, bringing together representatives from Asian sub-national governments and climate experts to discuss the realization of net-zero emissions in the region, the challenges and solutions in this process, and cooperation.
This year's summit, focusing on △climate action in Asia, △investment strategies for realizing Asia's green roadmap, and △competition in Asian climate technology and innovation, will feature a day of extensive discussions on May 8th.
Specifically, Governor Kim's itinerary includes attending and delivering a keynote speech at the 'Energy Productivity (EP) 100 Roundtable' as his first engagement on May 8th. EP100 is a campaign led by the Climate Group, the secretariat of the Under2 Coalition, aimed at improving energy efficiency in businesses to reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
Following the roundtable, Governor Kim is scheduled to meet with Ahmad Luthfi, Governor of Central Java Province, Indonesia; hold a meeting with the Policy Director of the Under2 Coalition; meet with Champika Patel, Policy Director of the Under2 Coalition; and meet with Deepali Khanna, Managing Director for Asia at the Rockefeller Foundation.
The final event on his agenda for the day is delivering a keynote address at the Under2 Coalition Asia Climate Summit, where he will propose ways to strengthen the role of Asian sub-national governments in achieving carbon neutrality.
On May 9th, the third day of his trip and the day he departs for Korea, Governor Kim will visit relevant sites to benchmark projects related to key provincial affairs. His schedule includes a meeting with the Korean Ambassador to Singapore, a meeting with the Singapore Public Utilities Board and a visit to the Marina Barrage.
A provincial official stated, "Chungcheongnam-do, despite being a region with a high volume of carbon emissions due to its concentration of coal-fired power plants, is actively implementing world-class policies such as declaring itself a Carbon Neutrality Economy Special Zone, announcing its '2045 Carbon Neutrality' goal (five years ahead of the national plan), pursuing the phased closure of coal-fired power plants and the enactment of a special law to support regions where these plants are 폐쇄, fostering alternative industries, and transitioning to eco-friendly energy."
The official added, "Through Governor Kim's visit, we aim to showcase Chungcheongnam-do's achievements in carbon neutrality policies to the world and build a stronger foundation for cooperation with Asian countries."
