The Paraguayan Poultry Association (Avipar) has announced its full commitment to ensuring egg production and stabilizing prices for the upcoming Semana Santa (Holy Week). The Paraguayan egg market, which experienced a sharp decline in production due to record-breaking heat waves earlier this year, is rapidly recovering and is expected to have sufficient supply during Semana Santa.

Avipar reported a significant increase in production in recent months due to the rise of new poultry farms. This is expected to positively impact the ability to meet the surge in egg demand during Semana Santa. Nestor Zarza, President of Avipar, predicted that "competition from new market participants will benefit consumers."

Currently, Paraguayan egg prices are maintained between 30,000 and 43,000 Guarani (PYG), and Avipar expects prices to remain within this range during Semana Santa. Although egg prices have risen slightly in recent weeks, this is attributed to temporary factors such as reduced production due to heat waves and intensified crackdowns on smuggling.

The Paraguayan government has recently strengthened its crackdown on smuggled eggs, leading consumers to turn to domestically produced eggs, thereby increasing demand. Avipar expects this shift to have a positive impact on the development of the domestic poultry industry.

Semana Santa, the week leading up to Easter, is a period of increased egg consumption in Christian cultures. In Paraguay, egg consumption reaches its peak during Holy Week, and the poultry industry is making every effort to ensure a stable supply during this period.

Avipar's announcement raises expectations that the Paraguayan egg market will be able to build consumer trust through stable production and price maintenance. The emergence of new poultry farms and the strengthened crackdown on smuggling are expected to enhance the competitiveness of the Paraguayan poultry industry and contribute to providing consumers with safer and fresher eggs.
