Ansan, South Korea – A 30-year-old woman was arrested early Wednesday morning after setting fire to her apartment following a domestic dispute.
According to the Ansan Danwon Police Station, A was apprehended on charges of arson after igniting a fire in her apartment located in Sunbu-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan City around 1:16 a.m.
The incident occurred when A and her 40-year-old husband, B, got into a heated argument after B refused to accompany her to a karaoke bar. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation, prompting A to call the police. However, upon their arrival, both parties declined to press charges.
While police officers were temporarily escorting B away to de-escalate the situation, A lit a kitchen towel on the gas stove and discarded it on the floor, starting a fire.
A's daughter, C, was present at the time of the incident. Fortunately, all residents, including A, C, and ten others, managed to evacuate safely, preventing any casualties. The fire was completely extinguished by firefighters approximately an hour later at 2:29 a.m.
During the interrogation, A admitted to the crime, stating that she acted impulsively. Police are currently investigating the incident in detail and considering whether to seek an arrest warrant.
