INCHEON – Residents of Woongjin County's islands will soon receive some relief from high delivery fees, thanks to a new initiative launched by the county. The “Living Logistics Fare Support Project,” running until December 12th, aims to equalize access to delivery services for those living in remote locations.

Island residents often face significantly higher delivery charges compared to their mainland counterparts. While some major delivery services like Coupang and the postal service offer standard rates, other companies impose surcharges ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 won, depending on the distance.

Woongjin County will now subsidize these extra costs, allowing islanders to utilize Delivery (courier service) without incurring disproportionate expenses. The county will provide up to 400,000 won per person annually to cover these additional fees. For deliveries without a specified Delivery fee, a fixed amount of 3,000 won will be provided upon presentation of supporting documentation. Last year, the program supported 3,182 cases, totaling 16 million won in subsidized fees.

This year, the program has expanded to include residents of Yeongheung-myeon, a region connected to the mainland by land, recognizing that even these residents can face higher delivery costs.

Beyond personal deliveries, Woongjin County also supports the distribution of local produce. Fishermen, farmers, and registered groups within the county can receive up to 60% subsidies on Delivery costs associated with selling agricultural and fishery products.

"We are implementing this support project for logistics distribution to assist residents of Ongjin County, an area with limited accessibility," stated Lee Yong-dae, head of the Economic Policy Department for Woongjin County. "We encourage residents who utilize 택배 services to actively participate in this program.”

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the financial strain on island communities and stimulate local economic growth by making it easier and more affordable to receive goods and ship local products.
