Cheolwon County Accelerates Construction of Park Golf Courses to Meet Residents' Needs

Cheolwon County is expediting the construction of park golf courses, a long-awaited project for its residents. The county recently announced on the 6th that it had secured 500 million KRW in provincial funds as the Kimhwa Park Golf Course project was selected for the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province's pilot project for unused military sites.

The Kimhwa Park Golf Course will be built on a 39,000㎡ site of the former 2nd Combat Engineer Company's unused military land in Cheongyang-ri, Kimhwa-eup. Cheolwon County has established a public-private-military cooperation model by mutually exchanging land owned by the military, currently used by the 3rd Division, with the unused military site of the 2nd Combat Engineer Company.

With a total investment of 4 billion KRW, the Kimhwa Park Golf Course will feature an 18-hole golf course, parking lot, and convenience facilities, and is scheduled to open in the first half of 2026.

Nationwide, the number of park golf users is increasing, but the only park golf course in Cheolwon is currently located in Guntan-ri, Galmal-eup, which cannot meet the demand. As a result, residents have been continuously calling for the addition of park golf courses in the Cheolwon-Dongsong and Kimhwa-Seomyeon areas.

In addition to the Kimhwa Park Golf Course, Cheorwon County plans to build a 27-hole eco-friendly park golf course by 2027 in the Hak Reservoir area of Dongsong-eup, which was selected as the first Gangwon Self-Governing Province Rural Vitality Promotion District, for residents in the Cheorwon-Dongsong area.

Cheolwon County Mayor Lee Hyun-jong stated, "As the demand for park golf is high among residents, we are making efforts to continuously expand related facilities."
