LIVERPOOL, UK – Lim Ae-ji has made history as the first Korean female boxer to medal at both the Olympics and the World Championships.

Her milestone was secured on September 10 after she defeated Brazil's Tatiana Regina de Jesus Chagas with a 5-0 unanimous decision in the women's 54kg quarterfinal at the 2025 World Boxing Championships. The victory was a repeat of her triumph over Chagas at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

By reaching the semifinals, Lim guarantees at least a bronze medal, as international boxing awards bronze to both losing semifinalists. She is the first Korean woman to achieve this feat and only the second Korean boxer overall, following Cho Seok-hwan, who medaled at the 2000 Olympics and 2003 World Championships.

Lim will next face Taiwan's Huang Hsiao-wen for a spot in the final. In other news, Korean boxer Oh Yeon-ji (60kg) was defeated in her quarterfinal match.
