Over 30 Artisans to Participate and 300 Works to Be Displayed... A Rich Program of Hands-on Experiences and Demonstrations Prepared

The exhibition hall at Daejeon Artists' House is filled with works imbued with the soul of artisans. The City of Daejeon is holding the 16th Master Craftsman and Artisan Exhibition for four days, from Wednesday, September 17, to Saturday, September 20, showcasing the pinnacle of technical skill and craftsmanship to its citizens. Co-hosted by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea's Daejeon Regional Office and the Daejeon Master Craftsman and Artisan Association, this 16th annual exhibition features over 30 master craftsmen and artisans and more than 300 works.

This exhibition brings together representative works from Korea's top-tier master craftsmen, who possess the highest level of national skill, and Daejeon's master craftsmen, who work in fields closely related to daily life. A wide range of works, including seals, stone carving, floral design, confectionery, and baking, are on display, captivating visitors. In addition, through works that blend tradition and modernity, such as pottery, embroidery, folk painting, and wood carving, visitors can experience the broad world of craftsmanship.

Beyond simple viewing, this exhibition provides an opportunity for citizens to directly experience and interact with the skills of the artisans. Throughout the exhibition, a variety of hands-on activities will be available, including hair beads, seal carving, pottery, embroidery, nail art, and woodworking. Demonstrations of calligraphy, wood carving, embroidery, and hair art will also be held continuously. Visitors will be able to see and feel the intricate skills of the artisans firsthand, gaining an appreciation for the value of their craft.

The opening ceremony for the exhibition was held at 3:00 PM on September 17 in the second exhibition hall of the Daejeon Artists' House. City officials, local artisans, and citizens gathered together for a meaningful time to celebrate the achievements of skilled workers and reflect on the importance of inheriting these skills.

The Daejeon Master Craftsman and Artisan Association also practiced giving back to the community to commemorate this exhibition. The association donated 350 kg of rice to the Daejeon Food Sharing Center, conveying a warm heart to help those in need. This is a notable example of the dignified actions of artisans who contribute to society through both skill and art.

Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo emphasized, "The Master Craftsman and Artisan Exhibition is a meaningful event that shares the spirit of craftsmanship, connecting tradition and modernity, with our citizens." He added, "We will continue to provide unwavering support to enhance the value of skilled crafts and promote a culture of craftsmanship." Following the establishment of the Master Craftsman Hall of Fame last year, the city is working to elevate the status of skilled workers by promoting the opening of a master craftsman website this year.

This exhibition is free to the public and can be viewed daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, from September 17 to September 20. This autumn, why not lend an ear to the special stories of master craftsmen and artisans unfolding at the Daejeon Artists' House?
