Suhyup to Launch Joint AI Control System Across Banking and Mutual Finance in October

Sh Suhyup Bank and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives (Suhyup) are set to officially integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their core financial operations starting this October. This strategic rollout features a unified AI management and control framework designed to be shared jointly by both the commercial banking sector and the mutual finance sector. The core objective is to simultaneously enhance operational stability and investment efficiency by meticulously managing security and regulatory risks while establishing transparent cost-sharing criteria for their shared AI platform infrastructure.

According to the financial sector on September 8, Suhyup Bank and Suhyup Central Federation will deploy three generative AI-based business support services this coming October. These services comprise advertising text identification and automated notice message recommendations, an internal work knowledge chatbot, and data analysis support utilizing Text to SQL technology. These tools are engineered to assist employees with tasks previously handled manually, such as reviewing compliance with advertising regulations, searching through internal databases, and executing complex data queries and analyses.

In tandem with these deployments, Suhyup is instituting a comprehensive AI governance and control system tailored for joint application across banking and mutual finance channels. This system evaluates the risk levels associated with distinct AI models, training datasets, and individual services, subsequently differentiating management protocols based on severity. By clearly delineating internal control and risk management responsibilities regarding AI, the federation aims to robustly mitigate risks related to generative AI errors, information security breaches, and consumer protection violations.

The implementation procedures are standardized across the entire lifecycle of any AI service, spanning from initial introduction, evaluation, and verification to operational maintenance and post-management. Standardized response protocols have been formulated for potential system errors, customer complaints, or disputes, while key performance indicators (KPIs) track the tangible efficacy of AI adoption. Rather than establishing ad-hoc administrative procedures every time a new AI service is integrated, Suhyup has streamlined the process to ensure common standards apply universally.

Furthermore, clear cost-allocation benchmarks have been established for the shared AI infrastructure utilized by both banking and mutual finance divisions. Expenses for jointly developed services will be distributed proportionally, while separate development initiatives will adhere to distinct guidelines. Cloud computing service fees will be settled strictly according to actual usage volumes categorized by individual banking departments, branches, mutual finance units, and cooperative branches. This unified infrastructure model is expected to curb redundant investments and clarify cost liabilities for each participating entity.

Building upon this foundation, Suhyup plans to architect a scalable platform structure capable of expanding its application scope toward direct customer-facing AI services and autonomous AI agents in the future. By ensuring that newly integrated AI models or services can be seamlessly governed under the existing control and operating framework, Suhyup aims to accelerate service expansion speeds and elevate overall operational efficiency.

Industry insiders note that competition within the financial sector has shifted fundamentally. Financial institutions are no longer competing merely on the novelty of introducing bleeding-edge services, but rather on how stably and efficiently they can propagate these technologies throughout practical, day-to-day operations. Leveraging a unified platform allows institutions to navigate regulatory risks effectively while curbing duplicate capital outlays, providing a distinct strategic advantage in scaling future AI initiatives.

This progressive stride by Suhyup mirrors broader digital transformation (DX) trends across South Korea's financial landscape, where institutions increasingly prioritize robust AI governance over isolated tech adoptions. By integrating strict internal controls with a shared cloud infrastructure, Suhyup is positioning itself to navigate tightening regulatory scrutiny while maximizing productivity. Detailed insights into their broader digital roadmap can be explored further through official channels such as Suhyup Bank and industry updates reported by media outlets like ETNews.
