US President Donald Trump revealed that US and Iranian delegations held a three-hour meeting following his warning of "obliteration" directed at Iran during the UN General Assembly on the 22nd (local time).

Speaking to reporters after a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Trump stated, according to the Associated Press, that "(the meeting with Iran) went very well. It ended an hour ago. It was a three-hour meeting."

The talks took place at the UN Headquarters in New York, where the UN General Assembly was being held. The US side was represented by Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, while the Iranian side was reportedly represented by President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

"It was a very good meeting," President Trump said. He added, "(Iran has) two choices. One is total destruction, and the other is the potential to be great. Iran can be a great nation."

He also noted that "additional meetings are scheduled for the very near future." He further remarked, "We will see what kind of result comes out. But one thing is clear: reaching an agreement is also in Iran's best interest."

Later, attending an event for "The Shield of the Americas," a US-led regional security cooperation framework in Latin America, President Trump said, "Steve and Jared met with the negotiators for Iran. It’s not at the highest level, but a lot of good ideas came out, and a lot of things are going very well."

Earlier in his UN General Assembly address, President Trump issued a warning of "obliteration" toward Iran. He stated, "I have a major decision to make: Do I reach an agreement with Iran so they can build a great nation, or do I swiftly obliterate Iran, plunging them into a hell with no chance of survival and no hope for future prosperity?" He projected that an agreement with Iran would likely be reached shortly after the US midterm elections in November.
