The City of Cheonan is gearing up for one of South Korea's most vibrant cultural events, the Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival 2026, which is scheduled to run for five days from October 1 to October 5. On September 14, the city government held a comprehensive preparation report meeting at the city hall's medium conference room, presided over by Mayor Jang Ki-soo, to review departmental readiness across safety, transportation, sanitation, and visitor convenience.

This year's festival expands its footprint across two primary venues: the Cheonan Stadium and the historic Cheonan Samgeori Park. While the opening days will focus on the main stadium grounds, the festivities will expand to include Samgeori Park from October 3 through October 5, offering attendees a wider array of diverse cultural programs and immersive spaces.

As a truly global celebration of dance, the festival will feature the International Dance Competition with 25 teams representing 24 countries, alongside the National Dance Contest, the International Street Dance Championship (CIDC), and the spectacular Street Dance Parade. To engage a broader audience, the city has significantly expanded interactive and youth-friendly programs, including the Pump It Up World Championship, the Street Dance Paldo Showdown, the Cheonan Retro Party, and Random Play Dance sessions.

One of the festival's most anticipated highlights, the Street Dance Parade, will take place on October 2 along a 550-meter stretch from Bangjukan Intersection to the Terminal Intersection in Shinbu-dong. To ensure a smooth event, the city will enforce temporary vehicle traffic controls, redirect city bus routes, and deploy a joint task force with local law enforcement and emergency services to manage crowd safety.

To elevate visitor convenience, the city has increased the number of free shuttle bus routes from three to four and established expanded temporary parking lots. Additional mobile restrooms, designated food zones at both the stadium and Samgeori Park, and dedicated sanitation crews will be stationed throughout the venues and parade routes to maintain a clean and welcoming environment. Following this initial briefing, the city plans to conduct an intensive on-site inspection report on September 29 to put the final touches on safety barriers, traffic plans, and temporary structures.

Mayor Jang Ki-soo emphasized that public safety remains the absolute top priority. He urged all municipal departments to maintain close inter-departmental cooperation to ensure that both local citizens and international tourists can enjoy a secure, seamless, and memorable festival experience.

Originating in 2003, the Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival has grown over the past two decades into South Korea's largest dance-themed festival, earning recognition as a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism designated cultural tourism festival. The event draws inspiration from the local folk motif of "Heungtaryeong," celebrating the communal joy of music and movement. Over the years, it has transformed into a global platform where traditional folk dance troupes from across continents meet modern street dancers, fostering international cultural exchange and boosting regional tourism.
