Kang Myeong-sun Contemporary Dance Company selected for the Jeonbuk Culture and Tourism Foundation’s '2026 Stage Production Support Project'.
The Jeonbuk Culture and Tourism Foundation (CEO Lee Kyung-yoon, hereafter referred to as the Foundation) announced that the Kang Myeong-sun Contemporary Dance Company (Representative Kang Myeong-sun), selected for the Foundation's '2026 Stage Production Support Project', will stage its creative performance, 'Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam and Eve', at 7 p.m. on October 3 at the Yeonji Hall of the Sori Arts Center of Jeollabuk-do.
This production portrays the origin of humanity and the trajectory of life—awakened from the primitive breath trapped within cold marble—through grand choreography and three-dimensional stage aesthetics.
Inspired by Michelangelo’s creative inspiration, the performance unfolds across eight chapters, including a prologue and an epilogue, depicting the beauty of paradise, forbidden temptation, the fall resulting from original sin, and the journey toward salvation and atonement.
The stage utilizes Contact Improvisation, a technique where dancers exchange weight and balance through physical contact and movement. Alternating between static scenes and intense group choreography, the performance expresses human solitude and vitality.
The Kang Myeong-sun Contemporary Dance Company has been presenting a series based on the three great masters of the Renaissance since 2021. Following a work based on Leonardo da Vinci, the company continues its series combining art and dance by interpreting Michelangelo’s 'The Creation of Adam' through contemporary dance.
"We sought to capture on stage the courageous creation and connection of humanity, who choose to make their own dazzling yet uncertain choices rather than remaining in a flawless paradise," said Representative Kang Myeong-sun. "I hope audiences experience a visual and emotional thrill that allows them to complete each other's worlds and return to a pristine purity through this performance."
CEO Lee Kyung-yoon stated, "It is meaningful to witness different art genres meet to create a new production. We will continue to support local artists so that their creative activities can lead to diverse stages and connect with provincial residents."
Meanwhile, the 'Stage Production Support Project' is designed to enhance the creative capabilities of local artists and arts organizations while discovering outstanding works by supporting stage production costs. By supporting the creation and presentation of various works—including premieres, revivals, and reinterpretations—the project expands cultural and artistic enjoyment opportunities for residents. This year, a total of 18 organizations were selected to meet audiences through their respective productions.
The performance is open to audiences aged 8 and older. Tickets are priced at 50,000 KRW for all seats, and reservations are required in advance.
