Sejong Hangeul Festival Concludes Successfully, Marking the 100th Anniversary of Hangeul Proclamation

The Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation (CEO Park Young-guk) hosted the "Hangeul Drone Grand Feast" and "Hangeul Fireworks Grand Feast" during the 2026 Sejong Hangeul Festival held on October 9 and 10. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangeul Day, this performance combined drones, media art, music, and fireworks to express the history and value of Hangeul across the night sky. On October 9, 2,000 drones lit up the sky, while on October 10, 600 drones harmonized with fireworks to decorate the festival's night.

On October 9, the show used drones to depict scenes symbolizing the history of Hangeul—ranging from the creation principles of Hunminjeongeum and the Haeryebon, to "1446", "1926", and "2026"—as well as modern life using smartphones. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hangeul Day, the names of 100 Sejong citizens whose birthdays fall on Hangeul Day, along with the phrase "Hangeul Culture City Sejong," were engraved in the night sky. On October 10, the performance began with the moon, the river, and "Worin Cheongangjigok" (Songs of the Moon's Reflection on a Thousand Rivers), illustrating King Sejong's creation of Hangeul and the promulgation of Hunminjeongeum through drones and fireworks, and concluded with a show combining three-dimensional drone direction, music, and fireworks.

Visitors gave favorable reviews for the sophisticated direction and composition embodying the meaning of Hangeul. One citizen, who had experience watching drone performances in other regions, said, "This was the most well-structured and smoothest-moving drone show I have seen. With the music added, it felt much richer." Another visitor shared, "Seeing it in person was truly a spectacle. The delicate details stood out in the direction, such as pages turning or King Sejong appearing to draw near."

Yang Yu-jung, Director of the Hangeul Culture City Center, stated, "We unraveled the history of Hangeul and King Sejong's achievements through cutting-edge technology and art, such as drones and media art, allowing citizens to experience Hangeul culture in a unique way. We will continue our efforts to widely promote the value of Hangeul culture and enable citizens and visitors to experience its charm broadly through diverse cultural and artistic contents that preserve Sejong's identity."
