I read a thought-provoking post on Facebook. I have a deep interest in Korean Peninsula history and world history. That is why whenever I look at a country, I always examine its past. By looking at their present, I often try to predict their future as well.
The Ottoman Empire, one of the most powerful empires in human history, met its end for several reasons. One of them was that it chose the wrong side during World War I, leading to its futile collapse. At the time, they failed to properly read the currents of the global village. It was no different from the late Joseon Dynasty.
The Ottoman Empire, which lasted for 623 years, and Joseon, which persisted for 518 years, both suffered miserable downfalls. History repeats itself. Anyone must take them as a warning and a lesson. Are there not eternal empires, nor eternal power? Looking at the trends and powers of today's global village, and South Korea's political arena, no answers are in sight.
