The Chungcheongnam-do Fisheries Resources Institute is set to launch its innovative 'Mobile Repair Service' on April 22nd, aiming to provide crucial on-site support to fishing communities facing geographical challenges in accessing repair facilities. This initiative underscores the province's commitment to alleviating the economic burden on local fishers and ensuring safer working conditions.

The 'Mobile Repair Service' is a tailored program designed to directly reach fishing villages where access to boat repair services is limited due to their remote locations. Recognizing that timely maintenance and repairs are essential for the livelihoods and safety of fishermen, the institute will dispatch specialized repair teams to these areas. The service will offer free inspection and repair of fishing vessels and vital fishing equipment, significantly reducing the downtime and costs associated with traveling to distant repair shops.

Under this program, each fishing household will be eligible for free support covering the inspection and replacement of essential vessel consumables and equipment components, up to a maximum of 200,000 Korean Won. This financial assistance will directly address the costs that fishermen often incur for routine maintenance, helping them to keep their vessels in optimal condition without straining their finances.

The inspections and repair work will be carried out by professional repair companies that have established partnerships with the Chungcheongnam-do Fisheries Resources Institute. These skilled technicians will travel to the fishing villages, ensuring prompt and efficient service delivery. This mobile approach eliminates the need for fishermen to transport their boats or equipment long distances, saving them valuable time and resources.

This year, the 'Mobile Repair Service' is expected to benefit over 800 fishing vessels belonging to 87 fishing village associations across Chungcheongnam-do. This widespread reach highlights the scale of the province's commitment to supporting its fishing industry. By providing accessible and free repair services, the initiative is anticipated to significantly ease the economic pressures faced by local fishermen, allowing them to focus on their fishing activities with greater peace of mind. Furthermore, well-maintained vessels contribute directly to safer fishing operations, reducing the risk of accidents at sea due to equipment malfunction.

Jang Min-gyu, the head of the Chungcheongnam-do Fisheries Resources Institute, emphasized the focus on reaching underserved communities. "We will prioritize visiting fishing villages in remote island and coastal areas where access to repair shops is difficult to resolve the inconveniences faced by fishermen," he stated. Looking ahead, Director Jang also highlighted the institute's commitment to continuous improvement and responsiveness to the needs of the fishing community, saying, "We plan to continuously expand customized repair services that reflect the voices of the fishing community in the future."
