NCsoft Unveils New Team-Based Survival FPS 'Like or Die' at Gamescom 2026

NCsoft has officially pulled back the curtain on its highly anticipated new project, previously known under the working title "Project Bonfire." During the Opening Night Live (ONL) pre-show at Gamescom 2026 held in Cologne, Germany, the South Korean gaming giant announced that the official title of the game is Like or Die. Alongside the title reveal, NCsoft dropped explosive new trailers that offered gamers worldwide their very first look at the title's unique gameplay mechanics, core universe, and dynamic combat systems.

A Fresh Take on Survival Shooters with Streamer Concepts

Like or Die is being developed as an innovative, next-generation team-based survival first-person shooter (FPS). Moving away from traditional military or dystopian tropes, the game introduces a deeply creative premise: players step into the shoes of live streamers broadcasting on "Quaya Stream," a sprawling cosmic broadcasting platform. Teamed up with allies, players must fight tooth and nail through intense survival competition to become the very last squad standing.

The core identity of Like or Die lies in its distinctive tactical mechanics. Players gather various resources scattered across the battlefield to grow stronger, acquire advanced weaponry, and upgrade their gear. More importantly, the game features an interactive block-building system. Utilizing specialized block guns, players can instantly generate cubic blocks anywhere on the field. These blocks can be strategically deployed to construct defensive walls protecting their vital team base—known as the "Nexus"—or to carve out tactical pathways and elevated vantage points, effectively reshaping the battlefield environment in real time.

Cinematic Trailers and Immersive Universe Revealed

The newly premiered trailers at Gamescom showcased the game's high-octane action, featuring block-assisted combat maneuvers, dynamic tactical fortification, and the climactic destruction of opposing teams' Nexuses. When a team's Nexus is intact, fallen members can respawn, but once the Nexus falls, the team loses its lifeline, raising the stakes of every skirmish to a boiling point.

Furthermore, fitting the unique streamer concept, matches are framed around live broadcasting elements. Powerful hidden rewards and high-tier equipment can be acquired through sponsor-sent airdrops and special "Lucky Blocks," adding an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability to the matches.

Global Outreach and Future Outlook

To coincide with the Gamescom announcement, NCsoft simultaneously launched the official brand website, a dedicated Steam store page, and an official YouTube channel for Like or Die. An additional lore-focused trailer was also released, giving fans a deeper glimpse into the vibrant, broadcast-driven universe of the game.

While an official release date has not yet been announced, industry watchers and fans alike are keeping a close eye on NCsoft's latest global endeavor. As part of its broader push at Gamescom 2026—which also highlights major titles like Aion 2 and Cinder City—NCsoft aims to use Like or Die to captivate international shooter fans. Further updates and detailed information regarding developmental milestones and testing phases are expected to be rolled out sequentially in the coming months.
