From town/neighborhood song festivals and treasure hunts to celebratory performances by Park Gu-yun, Gyeongseo, and Jo Sung-mo, ending with a fireworks show

'2026 Yeosu Citizens' Day Commemorative Event' held on the 15th at the main venue's open stage

Yeosu citizens, who have lived alongside 365 islands, gathered at the Island Fair venue.

The 2026 Yeosu World Island Fair Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Organizing Committee) announced that some 5,000 citizens and visitors joined the '2026 Yeosu Citizens' Day Commemorative Event' held at the open stage of the main exhibition venue on the 15th.

This year's Citizens' Day event was designed with programs where citizens directly took to the stage and participated in games at the exhibition venue, serving as an opportunity to reaffirm the significance of the Island Exhibition being created together by the citizens and the region.

First, starting at 2 p.m., a song festival was held where citizens representing towns, townships, and neighborhoods competed in singing skills. In front of the theme island, a challenge game enjoyed through group photos and roulette took place, while treasure hunts were held throughout the exhibition venue. While wandering around the exhibition venue, citizens naturally encountered island-themed exhibition halls and scenery.

The commemorative ceremony at 5 p.m. was arranged as a place where citizens could mingle with reduced formality. Opening with performances by children and the municipal choir and traditional Korean music orchestra, the ceremony featured the presentation of awards to this year's Citizens' Award winners. Subsequently, flags from 27 towns, townships, and neighborhoods stood side by side, and a performance wishing for the attraction of public institutions unfolded, with citizens painting a picture of the success of the Island Exhibition and Yeosu's tomorrow together.

The 'Yeosu Citizens' Night', which began around dusk, warmed up the atmosphere with citizen participation quizzes and support videos, followed by heightened enthusiasm from DJ Chundi & Alice's dance team performance. Next, joyful stages by trot singer Park Gu-yun, emotional vocalist Gyeongseo's songs, and hit songs by ballad singer Jo Sung-mo spanning generations followed sequentially, completing a stage enjoyed by the whole family together. With fireworks launched over the open stage against the backdrop of the night sea where darkness had fallen, the day of Citizens' Day drew to a close.

Meanwhile, Citizens' Day was shared outside the exhibition venue as well. On this day, five local tourism businesses—Aquaplanet Yeosu, Yeosu Marine Cable Car, U-World Luge Theme Park, Yeosu Romantic Sea Yacht, and Noktemare Media Art—offered special discount benefits ranging from 15% to 50%, allowing citizens and visitors who visited the exhibition venue to broaden their steps to various tourist attractions across Yeosu.

The festivities at the exhibition venue continue this weekend as well. On the 17th, the opening ceremony of the '2026 Culture Month' will be held at the exhibition venue, featuring a K-POP special concert by Seodo Band, Zion.T, and Solar along with a fireworks show. On the 19th, the Culture Month closing ceremony at the main venue's open stage will feature performances by Jeon Yu-jin, Kim Da-hyun, and Mentocrew.

An official from the Organizing Committee stated, "Seeing many citizens and visitors mingle together at the exhibition venue in celebration of Citizens' Day made us realize once again that the exhibition is a festival created together by citizens and the region," adding, "We hope everyone visiting the exhibition venue through this weekend's Culture Month events enjoys the autumn where islands and the sea harmonize."

The 2026 Yeosu World Island Fair is being held for 61 days from September 5th to November 4th under the theme "Islands, Connecting the Sea and the Future" across Dolsan Jinmo District, Yeosu World Expo venue, and Gaedo and Geumodo areas.
