The Samcheok City Choir will proudly present its 45th regular concert, celebrating its 30th anniversary, on Friday, July 18th, at 7:30 PM at the Grand Performance Hall of the Samcheok Culture & Arts Center. This concert will feature a full performance of Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece, 'Messa da Requiem,' showcasing the choir's profound musical achievements over three decades alongside the citizens of Samcheok.

Verdi's 'Requiem' is known to have been composed in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, who served as the director of the Milan Conservatory. True to his operatic background, Verdi ingeniously combined dramatic elements, magnificent choruses, and powerful orchestral sounds in this requiem, creating a work reminiscent of a grand drama. Movements like 'Dies Irae' deliver overwhelming emotion to listeners through the explosive harmony of choir and orchestra, while 'Lacrimosa' leaves a deep impression with its delicate and lyrical melody. These distinct fluctuations and rich emotional expressions are expected to leave a strong impression even on audiences not accustomed to classical music.

This performance will be led by the Samcheok City Choir's 55 members, with Choir Director Kim Gwang-cheol (Vice Mayor of Samcheok City) overseeing the overall direction and Park Chang-seok conducting. The concert's perfection will be further enhanced by the participation of top-tier vocalists from the Korean classical music scene. Soprano Park Hyun-joo, a professor at Korea National University of Arts and an active performer; mezzo-soprano Yang Song-mi, who is active in the National Opera and major domestic opera stages; tenor Lee Jae-wook, recognized for his delicate yet powerful voice; and bass Choi Jong-woo, who commands the stage with his deep and grand low notes, will perform as soloists, conveying the sublime beauty of Verdi's Requiem. Additionally, the Bissart Concert Orchestra, highly acclaimed for its excellent performances on both domestic and international stages, will collaborate to deliver an even richer and more magnificent sound.

Since its establishment in 1995, the Samcheok City Choir has expanded cultural opportunities for Samcheok citizens and contributed to local artistic development. Through annual regular concerts, special performances, and outreach concerts, the choir has consistently presented diverse repertoires and received continuous love from the citizens of Samcheok. Especially for its 30th anniversary, the ambitiously prepared 'Verdi's Requiem' will be a stage that fully showcases the choir's musical capabilities accumulated over the past three decades.

Admission to this concert is free on a first-come, first-served basis, and any citizen can freely enter and enjoy the performance by visiting the venue on the day of the concert without prior reservation. An official from Samcheok City stated, "This specially prepared performance to commemorate the Samcheok City Choir's 30th anniversary will be a valuable opportunity to enjoy the magnificent resonance of choir and orchestra." They added, "We hope many citizens will come and fill their summer night beautifully with high-quality music." The majestic and moving 'Verdi's Requiem' presented by the Samcheok City Choir is highly anticipated to provide an unforgettable musical experience for the citizens of Samcheok.
