For the 107th National Sports Festival, which will be held for the fourth time starting on the 16th of next month, the Jeju sports delegation has set a goal of winning 130 or more medals.

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Sports Council held a press conference on the 22nd to announce the power analysis results for the 107th National Sports Festival, stating its plan to maximize performance in the final stretch by leveraging the advantage of hosting a "home tournament."

This year's medal goal is about 30 fewer than the 175 medals won at the 95th National Sports Festival held in Jeju in 2014.

▶ Success of Traditional Powerhouse Events is Key to Achieving the Goal

The performance of Jeju's traditional medal-harvesting events, such as swimming and judo, is expected to form the foundation for winning 130 medals. In swimming, the team played a stellar role as a powerhouse at last year's Busan tournament by securing 23 medals, including 10 in racing and 13 in diving. This year, expectations are pinned on U-18 divers Kang Ji-ho, Lee Ye-ju, and Bu Hye-ju (all from Namnyeong High School). In racing, Lee Ju-ho (Seogwipo City Hall), who won a bronze medal at the Nagoya Asian Games, is expected to become a multi-medal winner.

Along with this, judo, which won 21 medals last year, expects to secure 17 or more medals overall, with 7 from the high school division, 5 from the university division, and 4 from the general division including Lee Kyung-ha (Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Hall).

Among events other than swimming and judo, those expected to produce multiple medals include archery, weightlifting, wrestling, taekwondo, and athletics. In archery, affiliated teams Hyundai Steel and Hyundai Department Store are expected to bring home 8 or more medals.

In weightlifting, Kim Tae-hee (Namnyeong High School), who settled for a silver medal at last year's Busan tournament, is expected to change the color of the medal and become a multi-medalist. In addition, Shin Rok and Son Young-hee, belonging to the Jeju Self-Governing Province Hall, are expected to boost the medal race, while Song Hyun-sik and other athletes from the Jeju Provincial Office are expected to secure 4 medals in the men's general wrestling division, alongside 4 expected medals in taekwondo.

In addition, expectations are placed on 3 medals in boxing, 3 in ssireum and wushu, 5 in athletics, 3 in cycling, and Olympic gold medalist Oh Ye-jin in shooting.

This year's National Sports Festival will see the Armed Forces Athletic Corps join the Jeju sports delegation. The Jeju Self-Governing Province Sports Council expects them to contribute to the medal race in Jeju's weaker events, such as basketball, rugby, volleyball, badminton, and hockey.

The Jeju Self-Governing Province delegation participating in the 107th National Sports Festival will hold a resolution ceremony on the 7th of next month, attended by Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo Seung-min, to pledge to "achieve the goal of 130 medals."

Jeju Self-Governing Province Sports Council President Shin Jin-seong stated, "The Jeju delegation, consisting of 665 participants across 43 events, is expected to win around 100 medals regardless of color. We anticipate that winning closely contested matches could make 130 or more medals possible," adding, "We ask for the citizens' support so that the Jeju delegation can do its absolute best."
