On August 31, 2026 (Monday), the Immigration and Foreigner Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Justice held capacity-building training and a discussion session for representatives from 37 Ethnic Korean Resident Support Centers to ensure efficient budget execution and customized stay support for ethnic Koreans.
This training was arranged to provide transparent budget execution guidelines, following the budget support provided by the Immigration and Foreigner Policy Bureau to the centers for operations and training, and to enhance the quality of stay support services helping ethnic Koreans settle stably in South Korea.
The Immigration and Foreigner Policy Bureau explained: ▲ budget execution and settlement methods; ▲ precautions and key compliance matters for budget execution; and ▲ matters related to the operation of the Ethnic Korean Resident Support Centers. In particular, with the support of a lecture from the Korea Fiscal Information Service, understanding of subsidy execution was enhanced. ※ (Korea Fiscal Information Service) A public institution under the Ministry of Economy and Finance responsible for operating and managing digital budget and accounting systems, as well as the integrated national subsidy management system.
In addition, the Immigration and Foreigner Policy Bureau guided center representatives on the main contents and implementation directions of the "Employment, Startup, and Education Support Project" and the "Mentoring Program Project," which are major projects promoted by the Ethnic Korean Resident Support Centers in the second half of this year, and shared matters for cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of the projects.
The employment, startup, and education support project aims to support overseas Koreans' domestic employment and other endeavors to help them achieve stable self-reliance and settlement, while the mentoring program project utilizes the experience and know-how of senior ethnic Koreans and experts to provide practical help for domestic settlement.
Through this, the Ministry plans to strengthen support so that the Ethnic Korean Resident Support Centers can function not just as simple stay complaint-handling counters, but as region-centric support hubs that assist overseas Koreans in settling stably in domestic society across various fields including employment, education, and daily life.
In the subsequent discussion session, the Ministry listened to the difficulties faced by the center representatives in the field and discussed future directions for ethnic Korean support projects and ways to cooperate among institutions.
The Immigration and Foreigner Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Justice stated, "The Ethnic Korean Resident Support Centers play a crucial role in directly supporting overseas Koreans in the field so that they can settle stably in our society," adding, "We will continue to reflect the voices of the field in policies through ongoing communication with the centers, and reduce the inconveniences experienced by overseas Koreans while residing in Korea."
It also added, "We will continue to provide related training and support so that the allocated subsidies are used transparently and substantially in accordance with the project objectives, while actively supporting the Ethnic Korean Resident Support Centers in building practical support functions that connect local communities and overseas Koreans."
