Governor Lee Cheol-woo Interview… Emphasizing the APEC Connection from Gyeongju to Shenzhen -
Chinese Local Media Visit Gyeongju, Mungyeong, and Andong to Cover the Taste and Style of Gyeongbuk On-site

Gyeongsangbuk-do (Governor Lee Cheol-woo) is rolling out promotional campaigns for Gyeongsangbuk-do tourism in cooperation with China's Liaoning TV and Jiangsu TV to expand the attraction of Chinese tourists. The two broadcasting companies visited Gyeongbuk regions such as Gyeongju, Mungyeong, and Andong for four days from August 31 to September 3 to cover tourism resources including history, culture, cuisine, and experiences, with plans to produce special programs to introduce them locally in China.

In an interview at the Provincial Government Office on the 3rd, Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo introduced the historical and cultural value and tourism competitiveness of Gyeongbuk, while delivering a message wishing for the successful hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting to be held in Shenzhen, China, this November, following the successful hosting of the Gyeongju APEC Summit last year.

Liaoning TV is based in China's northeastern region, and Jiangsu TV is a broadcasting medium based in the eastern region. The completed programs are scheduled to be broadcast during China's prime time (19:00–21:00) this October. Last year, Gyeongsangbuk-do promoted its tourism through Hebei TV and Hunan TV, reaching a total of 26.39 million viewers.

To target the Chinese market, which ranks first in inbound tourists to Korea (5.48 million in 2025, Tourism Knowledge Information System), Gyeongsangbuk-do has been carrying out marketing activities such as roadshows and Trip.com special exhibitions, and plans to continue follow-up marketing including participation in the International Gyeongbuk Tourism Industry Exchange Exhibition in October and the "Korea Local Travel Festa" in Shenzhen, China, in November.

"The successful hosting of last year's APEC Summit made the world pay attention to Gyeongbuk and served as an important opportunity to introduce Gyeongbuk anew to China," Governor Lee Cheol-woo said. "We will widely publicize Gyeongbuk—where the roots of Korea's history, culture, and K-culture are alive—to Chinese viewers, and enable more Chinese tourists to visit in person and experience the special value unique to Gyeongbuk."

He added, "If Gyeongju focused the world's attention in 2025, now it is Shenzhen's turn to embrace the world and continue the new APEC history. I sincerely wish for the successful hosting of the 2026 Shenzhen APEC, and I hope that the connection forged through APEC will serve as an opportunity to further expand tourism and cultural exchanges between Gyeongbuk and China."
