The Centro Cultural de la República El Cabildo, located in Paraguay's capital of Asunción, has embraced the traditions and artistic soul of Cameroon in central Africa. This cultural exchange, transcending borders and continents, has laid the groundwork for broadening the historical horizons of both countries and deeply instilling the value of mutual respect mediated through art.
Immediately following the official schedule of the 7th Latin American Folklore Festival (VII Encuentro Latinoamericano de Folclore Paraguay 2026), held from October 6 to 11, a Cameroonian delegation led by Prince Isaac Legrand Yamekue paid an official visit to El Cabildo. Led by the Asociación Folclórica Latinoamericana (Latin American Folklore Association), the festival featured Cameroon and Senegal representing Africa, leaving a profound impression on global audiences through traditional music, dances, and more. This visit, following the closing of the festival, expanded beyond the emotional resonance of the performances into practical cultural understanding and asset sharing between the two nations.
During the welcoming event on this day, Aníbal Saucedo Rodas, General Secretary of El Cabildo, personally greeted the Cameroonian delegation. Prince Yamekue presented a traditional staff of authority to El Cabildo as a symbol of friendship and respect. Along with this, handmade masks and various traditional crafts that capture Cameroon's communal customs and cultural memory were officially donated. These items have been newly incorporated into El Cabildo's existing collection, serving as important educational and exhibition materials to introduce Central Africa's unique artistic world to visitors in Paraguay.
General Secretary Saucedo Rodas highly praised the cultural significance of the donated items. He evaluated that this donation broadens the boundaries of the cultural heritage protected by El Cabildo while providing a precious opportunity for the Paraguayan public to step closer to African traditions. Based on shared artwork and shared heritage, this meeting has established itself as a symbolic event affirming the distinct identities of the two countries and solidifying intercontinental solidarity.
In addition to the donation ceremony, the Cameroonian delegation toured El Cabildo's facilities, taking a deep look into Paraguay's unique historical and artistic heritage. They expressed empathy for the efforts made by the institution to preserve historical materials and pass them on to future generations. In return, El Cabildo gifted a collection of historical books rich in its own history to the Cameroonian delegation, leading a two-way exchange of knowledge and emotion.
As an institution under the Paraguayan Congress, El Cabildo steadily expands the horizon of international cultural diplomacy while fulfilling its inherent mission of preserving and propagating national heritage. This cultural encounter between Paraguay and Cameroon proved that beyond physical distance, sharing artistic assets and historical knowledge allows both nations to serve as mirrors reflecting one another within global cultural pluralism.
