San Salvador – El Salvador’s government has announced plans to expand its successful Labor Migration Program, which offers Salvadorans legal and safe employment opportunities abroad. The program, launched in 2019, has already sent thousands of workers to countries like the United States and Canada.
Labor Minister Rolando Castro revealed that a new destination will soon be added to the program, providing additional employment opportunities for Salvadorans. “We are very excited to announce a new destination soon,” Castro stated in a social media post. “Our workers will be able to go work legally and safely through the Labor Migration Program. This is the new Ministry of Labor of El Salvador.”
The program has been hailed as a success, with the government reporting significant growth in 2024. The initiative has allowed many Salvadorans to improve their living conditions through secure and well-paying jobs overseas. “This year we will continue to promote more opportunities and destinations,” the ministry stated.
Beneficiaries of the program have expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided. Alfonso Cerrato, who is set to work in Canada, said the opportunity will benefit his family. Nelson Rodas, selected for a gardening position, praised the program as “excellent” and expressed hope for a brighter future.
The expansion of the Labor Migration Program is seen as a significant step by the Salvadoran government to boost the economy and improve the lives of its citizens. By facilitating legal and safe migration, the program aims to address poverty and unemployment while strengthening ties with partner countries.
