US "475 people arrested at a Korean company site in Georgia… many are Korean" Official Announcement

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) reportedly conducted a large-scale crackdown on undocumented immigrants at the construction site of the Hyundai Motor Group-LG Energy Solution joint venture battery plant in Savannah, Georgia, on the 4th (local time). The Atlanta branch of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on that day, "Today, in cooperation with HSI, ICE, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Georgia State Patrol, we conducted a large-scale immigration enforcement operation at the Hyundai battery factory construction site in Bryan County, Georgia." Stephen Schrank, Special Agent in Charge for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Georgia and Alabama, said in a briefing on this day, "Yesterday, Homeland Security Investigations, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, executed a court-ordered search warrant as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into illegal employment practices and other serious federal crimes." He continued, "This investigation has led to the arrest of 475 people, and we are focused on holding law violators accountable and establishing the rule of law." He said, "A majority of the 475 people were of Korean nationality," and added, "We don't have exact statistics by nationality yet, but we expect to get the relevant data soon." Special Agent Schrank said of the 475 people arrested, "They were either illegally residing in the United States or illegally working while violating their residency status."
