- 'Sejong Yeondong Art Weekend' to be held at Yeondong Cultural Village on October 16–17, featuring exhibitions and hands-on programs

SEJONG — The Sejong Special Self-Governing City (Mayor Cho Sang-ho) announced that it will host the 'Sejong Yeondong Art Weekend 2026' for two days from October 16 to 17 around the Sejong Yeondong Cultural Village in Yeondong-myeon.

The Sejong Yeondong Art Weekend is a cultural festival where visitors can experience a variety of programs, including exhibitions, hands-on activities, docent tours, and performances, distributed across the Yeondong Cultural Village.

The theme of this year's event is "RE:VIEW," which carries the meaning of looking back at the hometown scenery painted by the late renowned artist Chang Uc-jin through today's perspective.

Key exhibitions include the archiving exhibition "Yeondong Art 18-26" at the Naisong Warehouse—which was used as a grain warehouse in the 1980s and remained closed after an exhibition in 2018—and the village photography exhibition "Times of Yeondong," displayed along the walking trails of Nabunmaru Park.

Additionally, artist Lee Myung-jin's solo exhibition "Hidden Pictures" will take place at the Yeondong Cultural Power Plant, while the related exhibition "Yeongi School Sejong School" will be held at the Village Archive Culture Center.

Family-oriented hands-on programs, such as writing fairy tales utilizing Chang Uc-jin's paintings, family photo shoots, collaborative painting, and mobile-making, will operate at Media Maru and Yeondong Madang.

A diverse lineup of events includes a flea market featuring resident artists and local creators from the Yeondong Cultural Power Plant, as well as a stamp tour covering major locations.

On the second day, October 17, at 5:30 PM, a performance by singer-songwriter Ahn Eun-sun will be held at the Naisong Warehouse.

The festival operates from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM on October 16, and from 10:00 PM (Note: 10:00 AM) to 6:00 PM on October 17. Admission is free for all visitors.

Pre-registration for hands-on events and detailed schedules can be found on the event guide and application page (https://linktr.ee/yeondong.art.weekend).

Namkoong Ho, Director-General of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "This event is a festival where you can encounter both the village scenery painted by artist Chang Uc-jin and the stories of the residents who have lived there. We hope it becomes an opportunity for citizens to walk through Yeondong and rediscover the artist's hometown in a new light."

Meanwhile, the Sejong Yeondong Cultural Village was selected as a recipient of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s "Living Zone Local Branding Revitalization Support Project," driving local revitalization projects utilizing region-specific resources.

The city is also currently pursuing the establishment of the Chang Uc-jin Birthplace Memorial Hall, with a target opening in 2027.
