The 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition welcomed a vibrant group of international visitors on September 14, as 215 Japanese tourists arrived in Yeosu via the mid-sized cruise ship Mitsui Ocean Fuji (operated by Mitsui Ocean Cruises). This visit marks a successful convergence of international cruise tourism and the ongoing global exposition, highlighting Yeosu's growing status as a premier maritime and cultural hub in South Korea.

Exploring the Wonders of World Islands

The Japanese group headed straight to the main exhibition venue located in the Dolsan Jinmo District. During their tour, the visitors explored various exhibition halls dedicated to preserving and showcasing the delicate natural ecosystems and environments of islands worldwide.

A major highlight of the tour was the Global Exchange Island zone. Here, the tourists immersed themselves in displays highlighting unique island cultures from around the globe. They actively participated in interactive cultural programs, such as trying on traditional island costumes and joining fun engagement events like roulette games.

Strategic Tourism and Future Prospects

This successful group visit is the result of continuous promotional efforts by the 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition Organizing Committee. To attract foreign travelers, the committee has actively targeted overseas travel agencies and linked international cruise itineraries directly with expo tour packages.

Cho Hyeong-geun, Head of the Planning Headquarters, noted that future phases of the Global Exchange Island will feature special promotional zones. These will include collaborative spaces celebrating the 10th anniversary of sisterhood relations with Japan's Kochi Prefecture, alongside the Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City partnership. These zones will offer visitors a rich blend of regional culture, gourmet local foods, and customized tourism content.

About the 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition

Running under the theme "Islands, Connecting Oceans and the Future," the 61-day international event is taking place from September 5 to November 4, 2026. Events and exhibitions are spread across multiple landmark venues, including the Dolsan Jinmo District main venue, Yeosu Expo Ocean Park, Gaedo Island, and Geumodo Island. With advanced tech displays like media art, diverse global performances, and seamless cruise integration, the exhibition continues to draw enthusiastic visitors from all corners of the world.
