[Global Economic Times] Seoul City is promoting an urban space connection innovation project to revitalize Namdaemun Market, which is suffering from outdated facilities and a decrease in floating population.

The plan is to preserve and revitalize Namdaemun Market, a representative traditional market with 600 years of history, by developing a plan to develop together with the surrounding area while maintaining the market's unique identity.

To this end, the city announced on the 21st that it is pursuing a basic plan and feasibility study to implement various public projects by connecting Namdaemun Market with nearby historical and cultural attractions such as Namsan Mountain and Sungnyemun Gate.

First, the city plans to improve the pedestrian environment in Sowol-ro and Sopa-ro, which connect Namsan to Namdaemun Market, and a 1.6km section of Hoehyeon-dong alley, and to create a market culture promotion center in Sowol-ro.

The center will feature various support facilities for market visitors and merchants and a rooftop garden with a view of Namdaemun.

We also plan to help many visitors, including foreigners who visit to experience K-culture, feel the sensibility of Korean traditional markets in a pleasant and comfortable manner.
