Maryland, USA – The suspected leader of the fringe online group known as "Zizians," believed to be connected to several murders across the United States, has been apprehended by law enforcement.   

The Maryland State Police announced on Monday the arrest of 34-year-old Jack Lasota, believed to be the head of the group, and 33-year-old Michelle Zajko, a member of the organization. The arrests took place on Sunday.

The Zizians are suspected of involvement in the fatal shooting of US Border Patrol Agent David Maland on January 20th near the Canadian border, as well as five other homicides in Vermont, Pennsylvania, and California.

Agent Maland was killed in a shootout during a vehicle stop in the small town of Coventry, Vermont, about 20 miles from the Canadian border. Lasota was reportedly seen near the scene of the shooting and is charged with trespassing and carrying a handgun in a vehicle.   

While authorities have not released detailed findings of their investigation, an analysis of court documents, online posts, and statements from individuals familiar with the group suggests that Lasota appears to be the leader of this fringe group, largely composed of young and tech-savvy computer scientists in their 20s and 30s.

The group, which met online and shared anarchist beliefs, became increasingly violent over time. While their motives remain unclear, they discussed a range of topics online, from radical veganism to gender identity and artificial intelligence.   

At the center of this group, which called itself the Zizians, was a figure named "Ziz." Lasota, under the name Ziz, published blog posts containing dark and violent content. Identifying as a transgender woman, Ziz once described her theory in a blog post that the two hemispheres of the brain could have different values and genders, and "often want to kill each other."   

The AP report notes that Ziz also reacted sharply against so-called rationalist groups that try to understand human perception through reason and knowledge.
