SSG Landers Celebrates Lunar New Year with Traditional Korean Games in Spring Training

Vero Beach, FL – The SSG Landers, a prominent South Korean baseball team, brought a taste of home to their spring training camp in Florida by celebrating Lunar New Year with a series of traditional Korean games. Inspired by the hit Netflix series "Squid Game," the team organized a fun-filled competition for their players, coaching staff, and front office personnel.

On January 27th, after a day of intense training, the team gathered for a special event that included popular Korean games such as tug-of-war, paper flipping (a traditional Korean paper game), konggi (a Korean game involving kicking a small object with one's foot), and more. The games were divided into three rounds, with the final round featuring the traditional Korean game of jegi-chagi, a foot-kicking game using a stack of cards.

The coaching staff, including Jo Dong-hwa and Yoon Jae-kuk, emerged victorious in the jegi-chagi competition. To complete the festive atmosphere, a traditional Korean dinner of tteokguk (rice cake soup) and LA galbi (Korean-style short ribs) was served.

"We wanted to create a special memory for our players who are far away from their families during the Lunar New Year holiday," said Park Jin-woo, the team's first-team manager. "I'm grateful to the players for their enthusiastic participation, and we will continue to provide them with the best possible environment for training."

Mitch White, a Korean-American pitcher known for his resemblance to former MLB star Park Chan-ho, shared his excitement about the event. "I didn't make it past the first round, but it was so much fun watching everyone else play," White said. "I especially enjoyed watching konggi, as I used to play that game when I was younger. I hope we can have more events like this in the future."

By incorporating elements of Korean culture and the popular Netflix series "Squid Game," the SSG Landers successfully created a memorable and enjoyable experience for their players. As they continue their spring training, the team is focused on staying healthy and prepared for the upcoming season.
