Chungnam Province Holds the 11th Senior Welfare Center Festival… A Harmonious Gathering to Promote Leisure Culture and More

Chungnam Province has provided a harmonious gathering to promote friendship, enhance health, and vitalize leisure culture for seniors utilizing senior welfare centers.

On the 22nd, the province held the "11th Chungnam Regional Senior Welfare Center Festival" at the provincial government’s Culture and Arts Hall, with some 700 attendees, including Koo Bon-young, Deputy Governor for Political Affairs; Song Seung-ok, Secretary General of the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers; Kim Ho-young, President of the Association; officials from 19 senior welfare centers in the province; and local seniors.

Organized by the Chungnam Association of Senior Welfare Centers under the theme “Radiant Senior Years, A Day Where Culture Blossoms,” the event was divided into Part 1 (commemoration ceremony) and Part 2 (harmony festival).

The commemoration ceremony featured celebratory performances, a special video screening commemorating the 11th anniversary, commendations for persons of merit, opening remarks, congratulatory messages, a senior citizen policy delivery ceremony, and a slogan performance.

During the commendation ceremony, 19 seniors who contributed to the advancement of senior welfare and 7 outstanding senior citizen volunteer groups that practiced the role of "senior citizens as community leaders" in the local community received awards.

In the subsequent policy delivery ceremony, three senior representatives delivered a policy proposal formulated at the "7th Chungnam Senior Citizens Regional Forum" to Deputy Governor Koo.

The proposal contained two key policies based on the forum’s results under the theme of "A Society Connecting Generations":

-Establishing institutional and financial support systems for the sustainability of senior citizen activities.
-Creating regular forums and communication channels for intergenerational interaction.

In his congratulatory remarks, Deputy Governor Koo stated, "Chungnam has become a better place to live thanks to the seniors who have brightened our local community with warm hearts and voluntary service putting neighbors first. It is deeply meaningful that our senior citizens have directly proposed policies for a society that connects generations, and we will carefully review these proposals to reflect them in provincial administration."

Meanwhile, there are currently 19 senior welfare centers operating across the province, with 622 senior citizens belonging to 16 centers actively engaged in various community activities centered around volunteer work.
