Singapore, Singapore – BCD Travel's "2025 Asia Pacific Cities & Trends Report" has revealed that Singapore, Tokyo, and Hong Kong are the most frequented cities for business travelers in the Asia Pacific region. This data, reflecting BCD client air and rail activity across various Asia Pacific markets in 2024, highlights key trends shaping the landscape of business travel.

Singapore's strategic location and thriving economy have solidified its position as a premier destination for business travelers. Policies such as mutual visa exemption agreements with Southeast Asian countries, increased flight availability, and reduced airfares have further fueled the city's growth. Combined with its business-friendly infrastructure, Singapore has become an ideal destination for meetings and events, witnessing a 20% increase in visitors year-over-year.

Tokyo has surged to the second position, experiencing a significant 38% growth, while Hong Kong and Bangkok have maintained their stable rankings. Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei, and Jakarta have also retained their existing positions, with Sydney newly entering the top 10.

According to the Global Business Travel Association's "2025 Business Travel Outlook Survey," the Asia Pacific region led global business travel spending growth in 2024. A remarkable 78% of buyers reported an increase in travel frequency compared to 2023, with 30% indicating a substantial rise.

In intercontinental travel, Europe and North America each secured five cities in the top 10, with Frankfurt, London, and San Francisco leading the pack.

BCD's airline data shows that Singapore once again tops the list of most visited Asia Pacific countries, followed closely by China and Japan. The United States remains the top intercontinental destination, maintaining its position from the previous year.

Singapore dominates Asia Pacific flight routes, holding five city pairs in the top 10. Notably, the Shanghai-San Francisco route climbed from 17th to 10th place. Among the top 10 intercontinental routes, three now originate from Bengaluru, with the Bengaluru-Frankfurt route taking the lead.

Most Asia Pacific travelers (84%) opt for economy class, while approximately 15% book business class. However, intercontinental flights see a more even split, with 45% each for business and economy classes.

Asia Pacific travelers prefer direct flights, which account for 89% of all flights, thanks to well-established domestic networks. In contrast, only 25% of intercontinental flights from Asia Pacific are direct, likely due to longer flight durations and limited direct options to some destinations.

For layovers, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok are the leading cities in the Asia Pacific region, while Dubai, Doha, and Frankfurt dominate intercontinental layovers. These hubs offer excellent airport facilities and convenient connections for business travelers.

China and Japan boast some of the world's most impressive rail systems. Japan's Shinkansen high-speed trains are renowned for their speed, reliability, and efficiency, providing fast and convenient travel between major cities. China's high-speed rail system also delivers cost-effective and rapid travel on popular routes such as Changsha-Shenzhen and Shanghai-Beijing.

Sustainability is a crucial factor in business travel choices, and rail travel offers a lower carbon footprint compared to air travel. Rail's seamless city-center connections, punctuality, and eco-friendliness make it an appealing option for companies seeking to meet their sustainability goals without compromising on speed or comfort.
