In a move to stimulate economic growth and reduce regulatory burdens on businesses, the city of Incheon has announced the relaxation of restrictions on the Incheon North Port backland area. Effective immediately, the permitted uses and building types within the designated area have been significantly expanded.
Located in Seo-gu, Incheon, the 126,379 square meter (approximately 38,000 pyong) site has been subject to strict regulations since 2014. Previously, businesses were limited to constructing factories and warehouses, and the types of materials allowed were restricted to wood, metal, or machinery.
In response to ongoing requests from businesses seeking greater flexibility, the city has revised its urban planning regulations. The expanded permitted uses now include factories, warehouses, transportation facilities, hazardous materials storage and processing facilities, and automotive-related facilities. Additionally, the range of materials allowed for construction has been broadened.
"The previous restrictions on building use and materials limited the growth of businesses and made it difficult to attract new investments," said Lee Dong-woo, director of Incheon City's Maritime and Aviation Bureau. "By relaxing these regulations, we aim to create a more business-friendly environment and stimulate economic activity in the region."
The city emphasized that the expanded permitted uses comply with national land use and port laws and are consistent with the regulations of nearby port facilities.
With this regulatory change, it is expected that the Incheon North Port backland area will become a more attractive location for a wider range of businesses, leading to increased investment and job creation.
