Suwon, Gyeonggi Province – Gyeonggi University announced on the 5th that it has been finally selected as a university to carry out the 'Regional Innovation Center University Support System (RISE)' Project, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Education and Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi University formed a consortium with Hanshin University and Hyupsung University to participate in the RISE 'Regional Cluster Development Type (Type 2)'. With this selection, the consortium will receive 5 billion Korean Won in funding, disbursed as 1 billion Won annually for 5 years, until 2030.

About the RISE Project 

The RISE Project is a government policy designed to foster local universities as key hubs for regional development by promoting educational innovation and industry-academia cooperation that reflects the industrial and social needs of the region, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, local governments, and universities.

The consortium of Gyeonggi University, Hanshin University, and Hyupsung University set the 'Future-Oriented Foundation Industry Innovation Hub that Grows with the Region' as their core regional development task. They plan to implement the project through a 'Converged Cooperation Model' that integrates the specialized fields of each university to drive mutual innovation in regional industry and education.

The consortium received high praise from the evaluation committee for its project execution capabilities, particularly recognizing the excellent performance and structure in 'High School-University-Industry Linked Education Operation' and 'Regional Community Contribution and Issue Resolution'.

Gyeonggi University's Role and Vision 

Gyeonggi University plans to advance its cutting-edge technology-based education and research capabilities—including nanotechnology, semiconductors, new materials, and smart manufacturing—by linking them with local industries. It will also expand this into an interconnected platform with the consortium universities, establishing an industry-academia-research cooperation ecosystem. This aims to realize a sustainable innovation model where students, businesses, and local governments grow together.

President Lee Yun-gyu of Gyeonggi University stated, "This selection is a recognition of our university's accumulated achievements in cutting-edge technology education and research, and our industry-academia cooperation network, as an innovation platform for shared growth between the region and industry." He added, "The three universities will continuously innovate our educational models to jointly design the future of local industries and enable students to grow into converged talents who can be immediately utilized in the field."
