Singapore has secured the fifth spot in Resonance Consultancy's 2025 Best Cities in the World ranking. The comprehensive study evaluated over 270 cities globally based on a wide range of factors.
London retained its top spot for the tenth consecutive year, followed by New York and Paris. Tokyo claimed the fourth position, marking the highest rank for any Asian city. While North American and European cities dominated the top 20, Sydney (10th), Dubai (13th), and Seoul (16th) were notable exceptions.
Singapore's strong performance was largely attributed to its exceptional shopping and dining scenes. The city ranked 12th globally for shopping, highlighting more than just Orchard Road's renowned luxury brands. The report cited locations like Mustafa Centre in Little India, showcasing how shopping in Singapore can be both a daily routine and an art form.
Singapore's dynamic dining culture also contributed to its success, ranking 19th globally in the restaurant category. From Michelin-starred hawker centers to upscale fine-dining establishments, the city offers a diverse culinary landscape.
Surprisingly, Singapore also ranked 8th for cycling, a metric based on the density of cycling infrastructure. Other highlights mentioned in the report include Singapore's exploration of "new sustainable lifestyles," its position as a "major technology hub," and its robust economy.
The study evaluated the overall performance of major cities worldwide, particularly those with a population of over one million. The research focused on three key categories: livability, attractiveness, and prosperity, each comprising a series of sub-indicators. Data from the performance of these indicators was combined with responses from over 22,000 individuals across 30 countries to determine the world's best cities.
