JEJU — Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is stepping up its bid to host the 2028 G20 Summit by scaling up its task force (TF) into a cross-sectoral collaborative framework involving 15 affiliated departments and 4 related organizations.
On the 6th, Jeju Province held the inaugural meeting of the "2028 G20 Summit Jeju Bid Task Force" at the Baekrok Hall of the Provincial Government Office, chaired by Lee Chang-heum, Vice Governor for Climate Economy.
During the meeting, participating departments and agencies shared their regional conditions and response plans, followed by an open discussion focused on winning strategies and domestic and international promotional measures.
Leveraging the Jeju International Convention Center (ICC) and the Jungmun Tourist Complex as its hub, Jeju Province highlighted its capacity to simultaneously accommodate approximately 35,000 visitors, boasting 20 summit-grade accommodation facilities and 132 meeting rooms island-wide. The province plans to use the TF to further refine its logical arguments for the bid.
Led by Vice Governor Lee, the TF includes related organizations such as the Jeju Tourism Organization and various provincial departments, divided into seven specialized sectors: Overall Planning, Accommodation & Conference Facilities, Tourism & Culture, Policy & Industry, Airport & Transportation, Ports, and Public Relations.
Notably, under the Policy and Industry sector, Jeju plans to align its leading policy achievements—such as Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX), the Great Energy Transition, and RE100 (100% Renewable Energy)—with the core agenda of the G20.
Starting with this meeting, Jeju Province will operate the TF until the host city is officially confirmed. Through sector-specific working-level meetings, the province will monitor progress and elevate its bidding strategy.
Plans also include analyzing current sector statuses alongside strengths and weaknesses, formulating supplementary measures, expanding participating departments and roles in alignment with evaluation criteria, and strengthening cooperative networks with central government ministries, the National Assembly, administrative cities, and relevant institutions.
