Featuring a comparative exhibition of regional artists' works and AI-generated outputs, alongside a visitor-participatory 'Human-in-the-Loop' experience program
The W Museum (Director Shin Joo-yeon), selected for the '2026 Excellent Curated Exhibition Support Project' by the Jeonbuk State Culture and Tourism Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Foundation), will hold a special exhibition titled "Project A.I.M. - 10 Years After AlphaGo, AI Art Laboratory on Canvas" at the Iksan W Museum from October 24 to November 22.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the historic Go match between Lee Sedol and AlphaGo, this exhibition was planned to examine the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence (AI) from the perspective of sympathy and coexistence rather than confrontation, while exploring the role of humans in artistic creation and ways of interacting with AI.
The participating artists are Western painter Kim Sang-tae, Korean painting artist Lee Min-jung, and AI prompt engineer Jeon Seung-hoon. Alongside the artists' existing and newly created works, the W Museum will present images generated by AI based on the artists' respective creative universes and artist statements.
Visitors will be able to witness not only the artworks and AI-generated images, but also the process by which the artists' philosophies and language are translated into images via prompts. This creative process applies the "Human-in-the-Loop" methodology, where humans actively intervene in and adjust the AI generation process.
The participating artists introduce their artworks and production processes together, demonstrating that AI does not replace artists, but rather serves as a collaborative tool to assist in creation.
An interactive program allowing visitors to experience the AI creation process firsthand has also been prepared. The program will run on October 31, November 6, 13, and 20, enabling participants to write prompts, generate images, and refine the outcomes by reflecting their own opinions.
Through this initiative, the W Museum plans to expand AI-utilized creative experiments within the regional art scene and provide an opportunity for artists and citizens to contemplate human creative agency amid technological shifts.
Choi Young-gyu, Secretary General of the Foundation, stated, "We hope this exhibition serves as an opportunity to contemplate the role of human creation and the application of technology from an artistic perspective in the era of AI," adding, "We will continue to support curated exhibitions that connect new social changes with the creative endeavors of regional artists, thereby broadening the opportunities for provincial residents to enjoy visual arts."
Meanwhile, the Foundation’s 'Excellent Curated Exhibition Support Project' aims to enhance the planning capabilities of private cultural facilities in the province and expand opportunities for residents to enjoy visual arts, supporting themed exhibitions that reflect regional resources and social issues, alongside audience-participatory auxiliary events.
The exhibition is free to the public and will be held at the W Museum (204 Dongseo-ro, Iksan-si, Jeonbuk State).
