Daejeon, South Korea - Daejeon Metropolitan City has announced its plan to recruit 82 university students for paid internships during the summer vacation of 2025. The initiative aims to provide students with firsthand experience in public administration at the city hall and its affiliated institutions, thereby enhancing their understanding of municipal affairs and fostering civic engagement.

Applications will be accepted from May 14th to May 18th, 2025, and the recruitment targets a diverse group of students, including those from low-income households, current residents and students of universities in Daejeon, international students, students with disabilities, and students who recently transferred their residency to Daejeon after enrolling in a local university.

The specific breakdown of the recruitment quota is as follows:

Students from low-income households: 32 positions
University students registered as residents of Daejeon or enrolled in universities within Daejeon: 41 positions
International students or students holding a disability registration card: 1 position
Students enrolled in Daejeon-based universities who have registered their residency in Daejeon after their admission (on or after March 2nd): 8 positions
To be eligible for the internship program, applicants must be currently enrolled in a university and either be registered as a resident of Daejeon or attending a university located within the city as of the announcement date, May 7th, 2025.

The city plans to provisionally select three times the number of available positions as a preliminary pool. The list of successful candidates is scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025.

The selected students will be placed in various departments of Daejeon City Hall and 25 affiliated public institutions for a period of 19 days, from July 1st to July 25th, 2025. During their internship, they will primarily be involved in administrative support and other public service duties, gaining valuable insights into the operations of a metropolitan government.
