Seattle, WA – Microsoft has recently acknowledged a critical bug affecting users who installed the Windows 11 24H2 update between October and November. The company has confirmed that users who created installation media, such as DVDs or USB flash drives, using the official ISO file or the Media Creation Tool during this period may encounter issues with installing security updates.
According to Microsoft's support page, these users may be unable to install the latest security patches released in December. The company attributes this issue to a bug introduced in the October and November patches that impacted the creation of installation media.
Workaround Available
Microsoft has provided a workaround for affected users. They can either:
Utilize Windows Update: Users can attempt to install the latest updates through the built-in Windows Update feature.
Manual Installation: Alternatively, users can manually download and install the latest security updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Impact and Mitigation
While Microsoft has released a fix for this issue, users who have been unable to install security updates due to this bug are advised to prioritize updating their systems as soon as possible. Security updates are crucial for patching vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malicious actors.
To prevent similar issues in the future, Microsoft is urging users to always ensure they are using the latest version of the Media Creation Tool and to verify the integrity of downloaded ISO files.
Microsoft Statement
"We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused," said a Microsoft spokesperson. "We are committed to providing our customers with the highest level of security and reliability, and we are working diligently to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future."
