KAMAKURA, Kanagawa Prefecture — Production of glass figurines depicting sheep—the zodiac sign for the upcoming year—is in full swing at the Gokurakuji Glass Koubou workshop in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture.
At the workshop, artisans Shoichiro Iwasawa, 54, and his wife Mutsuko, 54, craft the delicate pieces by winding glass, melted in a furnace at approximately 1,200°C, around the tip of a rod and adding vibrant colors.
The studio offers two distinct designs, with several figurines featuring an elegant finish accented with genuine gold or silver leaf.
The handmade pieces are scheduled to go on sale later this month at select department stores and through online platforms.
