The Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra (hereinafter referred to as Bucheon Phil) will present its 328th Subscription Concert  on Thursday, July 24th, at 7:30 PM, at the Bucheon Arts Center Concert Hall. Under the baton of permanent conductor Adrien Perruchon, world-renowned horn player Radovan Vlatković will join as soloist, set to musically portray Rome's diverse landscapes and emotions. From Bizet's lively opening to Glière's lyrical horn concerto, and Respighi's overwhelming symphonic poems, works with distinct charms will harmoniously blend, inviting the audience to a Roman summer night.

Rome's Vibrant Festival and the Warm Resonance of the Horn 

The concert will open with Bizet's 'Carnival' from the suite . This piece recreates the lively atmosphere of an Italian festival with an orchestra, featuring prominent tarantella and saltarello rhythms throughout. Bizet masterfully expresses the dynamism of the Southern Italian Carnival with his excellent musical talent and passion, while exquisitely weaving together classical formal beauty and emotional contrasts.

Following this, Glière's  will be performed. This work is imbued with the deep sensibility of Russian late Romanticism, centering on the gentle and warm timbre of the horn. Radovan Vlatković is expected to fully display his rich emotions and outstanding technique through this piece. His true brilliance will shine particularly in the lyrical second movement and the bright, lively finale, making it a stage where the charm of the horn instrument can be fully appreciated. Although this work was composed relatively recently in 1951, it is highly regarded for embodying the essence of Russian Romantic music.

A Visual Journey Through Rome with Respighi 

The latter half of the concert will feature two representative symphonic poems by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi. Respighi is famous for his three symphonic poems on the theme of Rome, and two of these works will be performed at this concert.

The first piece, , describes four Roman fountains changing according to the time of day. The Fountain of Valle Giulia at dawn, the Triton Fountain in the morning, the Trevi Fountain at noon, and the Villa Medici Fountain at dusk appear in succession, delicately depicting Rome's beautiful scenery through music. Respighi expresses the movement and emotion of each fountain with diverse colors through various combinations of instruments, including strings, woodwinds, harp, and celesta. This piece was completed in 1916 and offers a glimpse into Respighi's unique impressionistic colors and excellent orchestration techniques.

Next is , a symphonic poem on the theme of pine trees in four locations, embodying memories and symbols of ancient Rome, presenting an even more grand and dramatic sound. Scenes such as the innocent children in the Borghese Gardens, the gloomy and mysterious atmosphere of the Catacombs, the night view from Janiculum Hill, and the triumphal march on the Appian Way show clear emotional contrasts, overwhelming the audience. Particularly in the final Appian Way scene, the reverberating trumpet calls from offstage and the majestic marching rhythm of the low strings combine to vividly portray the dignified return of an ancient Roman legion. This work was published in 1924 and is considered the most popularly loved piece among Respighi's "Roman Trilogy."

This program, embracing diverse emotions and colors, will be brought to life even more vibrantly under the delicate yet passionate direction of conductor Adrien Perruchon. World-class horn player Radovan Vlatković, joining as soloist, is also expected to deliver a deep resonance to Korean audiences through this performance.
