Gyeongsangbuk-do is hosting the "2026 Heunghaera Silla Nanjeon," a cultural and economic festival bringing together local small business owners and tourists, for a two-day run from October 23 to 24 around the Bonghwangdae area in Gyeongju.
The event modernly reinterprets the thousand-year history and culture of the Silla Dynasty. It was organized to expand sales and promotional opportunities for local small business owners and attract tourists.
This year's event is divided into four themed zones: General Nanjeon, Culinary Nanjeon, Culture Nanjeon, and Arts Nanjeon.
In the General Nanjeon, local small business owners and local creators participate to showcase products reflecting regional characteristics, such as agricultural specialties, crafts, and daily necessities. Visitors can browse and purchase a variety of goods in one place.
In the Culinary Nanjeon, local eateries participate to sell food, handmade desserts, and local craft beers.
The Culture Nanjeon operates hands-on programs including Silla-era costume experiences, accessory making, traditional games, and a stamp rally. Event participants will be provided with a dedicated currency usable within the festival grounds.
In the Arts Nanjeon, electronic gugak and band performances will take place on the first day, October 23, followed by a discount auction for small business products. Starting at 7 PM, the opening program "Munjeonseongsi Nanjang Show!" will be held.
During the opening program, comedian Ahn So-mi will present a live show introducing small business products along with a trot performance.
On October 24, a youth song festival, a dance festival, a celebratory performance by singer Seo-eui-ve, and a drone show will follow. A Silla Halloween DJ party will be held every night during the event period.
Lee Kyung-gon, Director-General of the Economic and Trade Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, "Heunghaera Silla Nanjeon is a festival where you can enjoy the history and culture of the thousand-year-old capital Gyeongju while discovering excellent products from local small business owners," adding, "We hope many residents and tourists will visit, enjoy the diverse food and performances, and lend support to local small business owners."
