Tragic Irony: Campaigner Killed at Same Intersection Where Wife Lost Her Life

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO — In a devastating turn of events that has shaken the local community, a dedicated road safety advocate has been killed at the exact same intersection where his wife perished two years ago.

Gary Goldberg, 82, had spent the final years of his life tirelessly campaigning for a traffic light to be installed at a notorious junction in Greenwood Village, Colorado. On March 5, 2026, Goldberg became the latest victim of the very hazard he sought to eliminate.

A Legacy of Grief and Activism
The story begins in May 2024, when Gary’s wife, 59-year-old Andy Goldberg, was fatally struck by a vehicle at the intersection. Consumed by grief but driven by a sense of civic duty, Gary refused to let her death be in vain. He launched a grassroots movement titled "Andy’s Light," a petition and awareness campaign aimed at forcing local authorities to install a signalized crossing at the site.

"I don't want anyone else to go through the heartbreak our family has endured," Goldberg told local news outlets during an interview last November. "If I can bring about a positive change, then Andy’s passing won't feel like a senseless waste. It’s what keeps me going."

The Fatal Intersection
On the day of the accident, Goldberg was reportedly heading to meet a cousin for lunch. When he failed to arrive, his relative grew concerned and eventually departed, only to later learn the grim news through local reports. According to the Greenwood Village Police, the collision involved two vehicles; Goldberg was pronounced dead at the scene.

The intersection has long been a point of contention for residents. Neighbors describe it as a "blind spot" for speeding drivers, noting that visibility is poor and the lack of a formal signal creates a "Russian Roulette" scenario for those attempting to turn or cross.

A Community in Mourning
The news of Goldberg’s death has sparked an outpouring of sympathy and renewed anger toward local bureaucracy.

Petitions: The "Andy’s Light" petition has seen a massive surge in signatures since the news broke.
Public Outcry: Residents are calling for the immediate installation of temporary safety measures until a permanent light can be erected.
Official Response: City officials confirmed they are "continuing to review" the safety protocols for the area, though many argue that "reviewing" is no longer enough.

The Cost of Inaction
Gary Goldberg’s death serves as a haunting reminder of the human cost associated with infrastructure delays. He spent his final days fighting for a light he would never see—a light that might have saved his life.

As the community prepares to lay Gary to rest alongside Andy, the pressure on Greenwood Village authorities has reached a breaking point. The question remains: how many lives must be lost before a simple traffic signal is deemed a priority?
